How to create an FTP account

An FTP account lets you connect to your hosting with an FTP client such as FileZilla to upload and download files in bulk. Creating a separate FTP account is handy when you want to give a developer access to a single folder.

Step-by-step

1. Log in to cPanel and open FTP Accounts under the Files section.
2. Enter a username and a strong password, and confirm the directory the account may access.
3. Click Create FTP Account.
4. In your FTP client, connect using your server hostname, the full FTP username, your password, and port 21.

Tips

Always scope a developer FTP account to just the folder they need, and remove the account when the work is finished.
