How to fix mixed content warnings after enabling SSL

After enabling SSL you may see a broken padlock or a not-secure warning. This usually means some resources on the page still load over http instead of https.

What causes it

Images, scripts or stylesheets that use hard-coded http:// links are called mixed content. Browsers flag any secure page that also loads insecure resources.

How to fix it

  • Update internal links and media to use https:// or protocol-relative paths.
  • On WordPress, set the Site Address to https and run a search-and-replace to fix old http links in the database.
  • Clear your cache and reload to confirm the padlock is solid.

Not sure your certificate is active? Check it with our SSL checker.
