How to edit a file in File Manager

The File Manager includes a built-in editor, so you can make quick changes to a file without downloading it, editing locally, and re-uploading.

Step-by-step

1. Log in to cPanel and open File Manager.
2. Browse to the file you want to change, for example a file inside public_html.
3. Select the file and click Edit (or Code Editor for code) in the toolbar.
4. Make your changes and click Save Changes.

Tips

Make a copy of a file before editing it, so you can revert quickly if something breaks. For large edits, download the file and use a full code editor.
