How to import a database using phpMyAdmin

When migrating a site you often need to import a database from a .sql file. phpMyAdmin makes this straightforward.

Step-by-step

1. First create an empty database if you do not have one.
2. Open phpMyAdmin and select the target database on the left.
3. Click the Import tab, choose your .sql file, and click Go.

Tips

If the file is large, compress it to .zip before importing, or ask support to import it via the command line.
